Are You Sure That Your Home Is Infested with Bed Bugs?
Bed bug infestations are quite unpleasant and annoying. But what exactly are they, and how can we get rid of them? A reputable pest control company answers these questions below:
-
Identification
Bed bugs are very small (about â…œ” long and 3/16” wide), which makes them extremely hard to see. They feed on the blood of mammals, including humans, while the latter are sleeping. These parasites are reddish-brown in color, flat, and oval-shaped. They hide in unsanitary bedding and mattresses (usually in hotels and motels). Sometimes, they can be found in carpets, as well as in-wall cracks.
Bed bugs are attracted by warmth and usually feed at night, just before dawn. The symptoms of their bites are mild, and sometimes not present at all. The bites usually occur on the neck, arms, face, hands, and other exposed areas of the body. People who have been bitten usually complain of itching and reddish-colored skin lesions, which may be either flat or raised bumps. Usually, they will go away after one or two weeks.

Preparation for Treatment
-
Before the extermination for treatment, remove all the bedding from your mattresses, gather all clothing, linens, and so on. Wash them in hot water and dry them in the dryer if possible.
-
After they are washed, place the items in bins, bags, and storage bags. Seal whenever possible, to prevent re-infestation. In rooms where bed bugs have been found, empty the closets.
-
Unplug electronic devices in the premises where the extermination will take place.
-
Vacuum floors and carpeting, steam clean furniture and cushions. Empty wooden bookshelves, dressers, nightstands, etc.
